Rongphuk
monastery is situated at an altitude of 16500 ft (5030m)
while EBC stands at an altitude of 5200m and total lenth
to drive is 110m from Tingri. And at the highest point
of the world. The tour passes through the valley of
the Rongphuk river and gradually goes up with Everest
occupying the southern top at the head of the valley.
The ruined monastery was very sacred. The whole of this
region was earlier full of wild mammals and birds.
Rongphuk monstery was badly destroyed by the villagers
between 1965-1975 themselves during the revolution,
as they were so much politically motivated that they
themselves smashed it. In the valley of Rongphuk there
is another ruined nunnery.
