Expedition in Tibet

With the establishment of Tibet Mountaineering Association on June 8, 1982 – it has been adhering to the principle of actively carrying out friendly relations with the mountain and mountaineering organizations in all provinces and municipalities of the Peoples Republic of China and in foreign countries and regions all over the world with a view to co-operatively promoting the mountaineering undertaking of mankind.

Although Tibet Mountaineering Association has opened so far 22 peaks for expeditions and thinking of 3 more peaks opening above 6000 m. in the near future. However, out of these 22 mountaineering peaks opened so far we, the Tibet Family Tours & Traveks have set our choice for the following peaks only since there are generally persuaded by foreign climbers and alpine clubs throughout the world.

Everest Expedition
George Mallory was in fact the first person ever to set foot on the mountain when he climbed to the nearby Lhakpa La from the eastern side during the first Everest reconnaissance of 1921. It was from the Lhakpa La Mallory first saw the North Col and the upper East Rongphuk glacier. He could see the long sweep of the north ridge leading up from the North Col to the Summit and realized that at last he had discovered a potential way to climb Everest, In a state of great excitement he dashed across the upper East Rongbuk and made the first ascent to the North Col. That night he slept on the North Col. In defiance of contemporary medical opinion as he had been told if he dared to sleep at such altitudes then he would become severely brain damaged.

Shishapangma Expedition
Shishapangma [8,046 meters] is probably the least known of the world's fourteen 8000-meter peaks, despite being only 80 km northeast of Kathmandu. The mountain is hidden from Nepal, tucked behind the Langtang Himal and the main Himalayan ridge. The round trip to Shishapangma takes us five days, and it is one of Tibet's best kept trekking secrets and finest high alpine walks. This adventure trek is one of the few treks that do not involve pass crossing, which makes it a bit easier than our other trekking tours in Tibet, but none the less rewarding.

Cho Oyu Expedition
Mt. Cho Oyu which stands astride the Nepal - Tibet border and to the west of Mt. Everest, has offered an excellent choice for all mountaineers alike wishing to climb their first 8,000 and over metre peak. It is technically straightforward climb with a minimal danger and accessibility easy, as such the logistic planning is much easier. Base camp can be planned fairly, making the living little bit more comfortable and tolerable.

Mt. Gurla Mandata Expedition
This spectacular Gurla Mandata massif makes up part of the western section on the Himalayan Himal lying in the Burang Country of Tibet. It is a close neighbour to the sacred Mount Kailash, which lies to its north. The local inhabitants call it the Namo Nanyi meaning "Fairy's Peak". Gurla Mandrohata is made up of six ridges. The west ridge is shaped like a fan and stretched across from north to south, while the eroded east ridge forms extremely steep cliffs. Also to the north lies the holy lake Manasorover and Langatso.
Gurla Mandhara was first climbed in 1985 by a Sino-Japanese expedition. This 7000er has been climbed only five times since the first ascent up until now. This is rather amazing given the fact that the mountain was attempted as early as 1902

Norjing Khangsang Expeidtion
The tibetan name Nojinkangsang stands for a malevolent spirit living on the noble snowy mountain. Nojinkangsang is the main peak of the Lhagoi Kangri Shan - range, which rises between the town Gyangze (4045m) and the holy lake Yamdrog Tso or Yamzho Yumco southwest of the Tibetan capital Lhasa. The south slope of Nojinkangsang rises directly north of the Karo La-pass (5010m) on the Sino-Nepal-Highway from Lhasa to Gyangze.
